Ambient Guardians win ‘Innovation Quality Outcomes’ category at Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards 2021

Our Ambient Guardians have won the ‘Innovation Quality Outcomes’ category at the Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards 2021. The award was presented at a special ceremony hosted by TV and radio presenter Angela Rippon CBE, held at The Grand Hotel in Birmingham on 4th March 2022.

The Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards are designed to celebrate and reward the hard work, dedication, innovation and excellence of everyone working in the not-for-profit sector who is making a positive difference to people’s lives. The ceremony celebrated the outstanding achievements of the finalists with a drinks reception, awards presentation, three-course meal and entertainment.

Ambient Support won the Innovation Quality Outcomes award which recognises new ways to achieve quality outcomes that make a difference to the lives of people using the service.

Ambient were praised for their astute work in the creation of the Ambient Guardians, an involvement and co-production group who are experts by experience and an essential part of the organisation’s Quality Team, which was founded on the principle that the voice of people using Ambient services should be heard and inform everyone’s understanding of what good quality care and support looks like.

Specifically, Ambient Guardians enable service users to have their say and be actively involved, at every level of the Charity, in planning, reviewing, auditing and decision making- feeding back on policies and procedures whilst inspiring and motivating the organisation to continuously improve and ensure the provision of robust, rights-focused, personalised care and support.

Involvement Development Lead at Ambient Support, Joanne Turberveille, who was at the ceremony, says:

“What an amazing day! We are completely overjoyed to win and receive recognition for the brilliant work that the Ambient Guardians do for our service.

“The Guardians make a vital difference to the way Ambient operates and grows. They help to ensure we get it right for the people we support, whether that’s in a supported living service, out in the community or in a care home. And it’s an opportunity for our Guardians to learn new skills and meet new people – it’s an unconventional but clever idea that works brilliantly for all involved and ensures Ambient delivers person-centred care and support.”

Chief Executive of Ambient Support, Mark Milton says:

“We are absolutely thrilled to win this award which recognises Ambient’s innovative thinking and our utmost commitment to providing excellent quality care. It requires a different relationship between the people we support and our professionals, with a shift in power and decision-making that enables users to have a voice and be connected to each other and their communities and I am extremely proud that our staff are able to facilitate this way of working.

“I am truly humbled to see how our carers go above-and-beyond, on a daily basis, to provide the best possible care and enable the people we support to live the best and most fulfilling lives they can.”
