St Audrey’s care home team is a step closer to their target with a sponsored walk

Staff at St Audrey’s care home in Old Hatfield are a step closer to reaching their £5k target following their latest fundraising drive – a 19km walk!

St Audrey’s are raising funds to buy a wheelchair accessible polytunnel so residents can enjoy year-round use of the garden. Initiatives so far have included a Talent Show which combined with the sponsored walk have raised a staggering £1695 towards their target.

St Audrey’s Team members, Sian Oughton and Louise Salisbury who have spearheaded the fundraiser are delighted with how it went.

Sian said:  “There were 10 of us that took part and we ended up walking for 12.5 miles! We were delighted to be joined by one of our amazing residents Audrey, who is in her 80’s, who walked a whopping 8 miles alongside her daughter Heather.  We were also joined by Jade – one of our Senior Carers – who brought along her 7 year old daughter Evie, who did brilliantly and walked for 8 miles.  I was delighted to be accompanied by my daughter Elsie-Louise, 13, who completed the entire walk with me. I cannot thank everyone enough for taking part and for the very generous donations. Every step we take brings our closer to our target.”

The event was captured by George Salisbury, son of organiser Louise, who took some stunning photos as the team walked the Welwyn Garden City centenary.

Louise added: “It was super tough going, but I can honestly say we all had a blast and kept each other going when we wanted to give up.  It was a great team building event and we look forward to the rest of our initiatives this summer to keep spirits lifted and reach our target.”

St Audrey’s forms part of the Hatfield House Estate, a 19th Century Manor house with beautiful gardens. Residents enjoy gardening but are currently limited to summertime and are reliant on good weather, a polytunnel will enable residents to enjoy the benefits of gardening all year.

Additional fundraising events will continue across the summer. Please donate now and help St Audrey’s reach £5,000 via their fundraising page: St Audrey’s Just Giving
