“Prior to working at Ambient, I’d had roles within organisations and international corporations, all of them based in London.

These were the roles I immediately went for after graduating from university, on the assumption that they were where I’d find most personal opportunity.

After four years of moving between these kinds of jobs down to lack of fulfilment and zero work-life balance, I knew I had to have a rethink.

My role in Ambient’s corporate administration has given me what I’d been searching for. The work we do changes people’s lives, and that statement can only be understood fully once you witness it in action.

Every day, I have the joy of receiving updates from across our services, where the people we support are experiencing happiness and independence, sometimes for the first time in years; sometimes for the first time in their lives. It really is a reality check and keeps my life in perspective.

I live locally to the Ambient offices and yet my experience still feels bigger. This also means I don’t have an exhausting commute to mark the start and finish of every day. Because of the honest relationship I have with my manager and her unwavering support, I felt for the first time in my professional life that I could ask to try out flexible approaches to how and when I worked.

The charity cares for its staff and encourages growth and innovation. It is refreshing to feel like an individual whose value is considered beyond the nine to five. And as a result, my job satisfaction, motivation, creative problem-solving and efficiency only improve.

Ambient has allowed me to continue the passions I enjoy in my personal life, which includes mostly writing and performing music.  Their flexible approach to working means the suffocating line once strictly separating my “work” and “life” is now balanced.

The charity’s values, sense of community, and the impact it has across both their services and corporate offices, inspires me inside and outside of working hours. Ambient is an extension of me as a person, far more than just a job I show up for.”
